I am a native of Nantucket island but have spent most of my life in the Pacific Northwest.
My favorite part of practicing law is getting to know my clients and their businesses and helping them be proactive and practical in their risk management and problem-solving, a skill that I honed early in my working life.
I began my legal career over 30 years ago when I worked in my grandfather's law office while earning my undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh. I then returned to the west coast and worked as a legal secretary and paralegal while obtaining my law degree from Seattle University School of Law. I became an associate with the same firm at which I worked while I finished law school, focusing primarily on construction law, contracts and collections, and ultimately became a shareholder.
My ability to form close working relationships with my clients led me to a position as the inaugural general counsel of a multi-regional specialty industrial painting company where I worked closely with employees at all levels of the organization, providing my business and legal perspective on issues ranging from overall operations to contractor negotiations to collection of accounts receivable to employment issues to environmental compliance.
Prior to COVID, I spent most of my non-work hours keeping up with my young daughter and her various activities ranging from karate to swimming to running. While we still try to keep up as many of those activities as we can, we have spent a lot more time lately tending to our garden. Having spent the first 14 years of my life living and working on our family vegetable farm on Nantucket, I take great joy in being able to walk out into our ever growing backyard garden.
I also serve as co-Treasurer for the Board of Trustees for my daughter's school and as a Board Member for the Greater Federal Way Chamber of Commerce.
I love to hear what others choose as a way to make a living!
